Focusing on the Power of Innovation, TANC ASIA PRIZE 2015 Is Ready to Go

Oct, 2015 – Modern Media Group, together with its premier international art publication The Art Newspaper China, are honoured to announce that the TANC ASIA PRIZE 2015 will be held in November, 2015 in Shanghai. TANC ASIA PRIZE 2015’s programming is made possible thanks to the invaluable support of Shanghai 21 Century Minsheng Museum and exclusive sponsorship from Lincoln, the world famous luxury automobile brand.

Following its success in 2014 during Art Basel Hong Kong, the award will continue the aim of promoting communication and development in art and culture across Asia and encouraging artistic research and exchange.

The TANC ASIA PRIZE 2015 focuses on the power of innovation and the questions that arise from it: What kind of energy do art works, exhibitions and critics deliver in the Asia region? How do innovations from other fields change the future of art?

Contributors from different industries with innovative ideas and practices have been invited as speakers at the “Power of Innovation” TANC art forum in the morning of November 22, which supplements the award. Japanese new media artist teamLab, Chinese artists Zhang Ding and Li Mu, director of Beijing Fine Art Academy Wu Hongliang, curator of M+, Museum of visual culture, Pauline Yao,China and Zurich based curator Li Zhenhua, contemporary art curator and critic DavideQuadrio, Chinese architect and founder of MAD architects, Ma Yansong, Documentary director, Kiki YU will be giving speeches at the forum.

As the highlight of the TANC Asia series of events, teamLab, the Japan based “Ultra-technological” artist group will present an interactive installation artwork entitled “What a Loving and Beautiful World”. TeamLabis a collaborative, interdisciplinary creative group that brings together professionals from various fields of practice in the digital society: artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians, architects, web and print graphic designers and editors. They are driven by the notions that, once new technology reconnects with art, the art scene will glow with vitality.

In 2015, 9 prizes will be awarded, covering 5 categories: institution, project, exhibition, curator and artist. Organized by Modern Media Group, an international jury consisting of the most authoritative and influential experts in the field will select the winners. Awards will go to those who have displayed pioneering creativity and an impetus towards popularizing art in the greater China region since 2014. The winners will be announced at the awarding ceremony on 22nd November, 2015.
